We've Got Suction!!!!

We are so excited to announce that Adalynn can use a straw!!! Yea! It is one of those cleft things...something we didn't really expect that she would be able to do (or at least not anytime soon) but, she has surprised us. She can really use a straw. She still sounds very airy while sucking, but she can do it nonetheless.

Some of her favorites---drinkable yogurt, juice boxes, and of course...sweet tea!

We are so proud of her!!!!

  1. To the average person, drinking from a straw may seem like no big deal, but I sure remember when Rachel started drinking from a straw! Hip, Hip, Hooray for Adalynn!!!! This is a huge thing for a cleft affected child!

  3. That's wonderful!! I keep trying to get Drew to drink from a straw, but he just chews on it and gives me a strange look, like "what am I suppose to do with this???" :)

  4. WOW! Way to go Adalynn! Jackson never had trouble with straws but Jordan just sits there like, "Um, what am I supposed to do with this?"

  5. YAY Adalynn!!! That's wonderful!

I'm glad to know someone else's kid was on the crazy side coming out of anesthesia. The nurse was acting like what Abby was doing wasn't normal, making it even more chaotic for me, and Abby. I will post about our night and today soon . . . thanks for being there!

  7. Yet another skill I didn't think of being such a huge milestone, but it really is! It's funny what I take for granted that your average non-cleft kid can do! I laughed about Krissy's comment with Drew just chewing on it... I can totally see Aidan giving me that same look when his turn comes. Yay Adalynn! Now you can have fun and get those cool swirly straws!!

  8. Hallelujah!! Who would have ever thought something so simple would excite us parents so much. When our son Bauer started sucking you would have thought he threw a touchdown at the superbowl!!! :)
We are new to your blog, but very excited to hear of the great news!!

  9. About Fireproof..... we're in the same boat. We both really want to see it but we'll probably wait until it is on DVD. We don't have any babysitters in the area. I've had one person watch them but Jordan is feisty and quite a handful!

  10. That's great news for Adalynn. She's such a doll. I'm a little sad they are growing up so fast.

  11. Look at Adalynn's hair! Is it getting longer, or is it just me? :)
